• Key loggers

  Did you know that it is possible to record every single key you press on your keyboard? With the right code, scammers can identify your usernames and passwords by tracking the keystrokes you have used on particular sites. That malicious little code is called a “Keylogger” and it can be transferred to your device through an e-mail attachment or memory stick. Keep your security software up-to-date and never open unknown e-mail attachments

• Phishing

  When you get an e-mail from your eMalyami, or a similar institution, how do you know it’s from there? That’s an important question to ask because fraudsters can harvest your PIN, passwords, and account details with one super simple trick. They send an e-mail that looks like it’s come from your eMalyami. When you follow a link from the e-mail to your online account, it’s a fake web-page. Unsuspecting victims input all their details and voila! They have everything they need to steal from you. Never follow links to secure app environments from e-mails. And we promise that we’ll never put it in our communications with you. As the name suggests, SMShing is much like Phishing but occurs via text message on mobile devices. In these cases, you’ll get a scary message supposedly from your consultant telling you that your credit card has been stolen or a lot of money has been withdrawn. It will include a link for you to follow to input your PIN and other sensitive information in some kind of “reporting” environment. Don’t do it. • Deposit refund scam

  If anybody ever contacts you to tell you that they’ve “accidentally” paid money into your account you should be suspicious. Scammers provide a fake “proof of payment” and ask you to refund their money. You will pay it, believing that the money will clear in your account soon. Of course, it never will. Always double-check these deposits with the eMalyami

• Vishing

  Vishing is the combination of the words “Voice” and “Phishing”. This is when criminals pretend to be somebody from the eMalyami and acquire your private information through telephonic manipulation. They will pretend that they are phoning to just confirm your details or to let you know they’ve detected something wrong with an account. Never give your PIN or any personal information over the phone. Our consultants will never expect you to supply that kind of information telephonically

Things to remember

Think Twice: Don’t open e-mail attachments or mobile messages if you don’t trust the source or don’t know what it is.

Strength in your password: Thieves can run through dictionary programmes to crack ordinary passwords. Create passwords with a combination of letters, numbers and characters. Find a pattern that will be easy to remember, but impossible to guess.

Question every link: Criminals can make websites that look just like your online platform environment and fool you into inputting your username and PIN. Always open a fresh browser and type the address in yourself

Don’t hide things in plain site: It can be hard to remember all your passwords and PIN’s but don’t save them on your laptop, also, always make sure that your devices auto-lock and are password protected.

Encrypt: When you are on a secure site, a padlock will be visible on the left-hand side of the website address in your browser. This means that you are in a secure environment to transect or make online payments.

Destroy: Burn or shred old statements and similarly printed documents with your personal information.

It is vitally important that you never give your online username and/or password to anyone.

Never give your One Time PIN (OTP) to anyone.

Never click on links in emails claiming to be from eMalyami (we never send links in our correspondence).

Always type in www.eMalyami.com in your browser.

Be cautious of company names with web-based email addresses, e.g., junkmail@yahoo.com, @hotmail.com, @gmail.com, @ymail.com.

Review your transactions regularly.

Don't expect to be selected as a winner if you haven't participated in the lottery or other competitions.
